尼尼微的圣以撒（St. Issac of Nineveh) 是非常有影响力的灵修作者。他来自Beth Qaṭraye，大约在676/80年间，被Cath.Gewargis（661-81）任命为尼尼微（Nineveh，现位于伊拉克摩苏尔 Mosul）的主教。然而，不久之后，他就离开——“只有上帝知道的原因”，两个简短的传记中的一个这样说——成为一名隐修士，隶属于舒斯特 (Shuster)地区的拉班沙布尔 (Rabban Shabur)修道院。他的灵修著作分为几个 “部分”，其中三部分现已广为人知。第一部分有82个章节，流传很广，在8世纪末或9世纪初，在耶路撒冷附近的马尔萨巴（Mar Saba, St. Sabbas 圣萨巴斯）的卡尔西多尼亚（Chalcedonian）修道院译成希腊文。随后，他的作品从希腊文翻译成许多其他语言，特别是斯拉夫语（从那时起，它们被纳入俄罗斯版的 “Philokalia”）。这个希腊译本还包括（以圣以撒的名义）Dalyatha的Yoḥannan的三部短篇作品，以及Philoxenos的《致Patricius的信》的缩写版。目前印刷版的希腊文译本可以追溯到N.Theotokis的译本（1770年），并且与叙利亚文的章节编号不同（M.Pirard正在准备一个非常需要的希腊文新版本）。第二部分由41个章节组成，完整地保存在一个早期的手稿中。这一部分的第三章很长，由四个 “世纪 “组成，是关于精神知识的短语（仿照艾瓦格瑞的 “Kephalaia Gnostica”）。最近还发现了第三部分，在德黑兰的一份手抄本中，大约在1900年；这部分包含17个章节，其中两个与第一部分重复，一个与第二部分重复。虽然第二部分和第三部分没有被翻译成希腊语，但其中的一些章节已经在阿拉伯语中被确认，而且它们显然在东正教以外的叙利亚修道院圈子里也很有名。恩典之书 “可能是由Shemʿon d-Ṭaybutheh撰写的，有时被错误地归于圣以撒。
